There's no place like home for the holidays...

Unbelievably, the Holiday season is in full swing. I am still trying to figure out exactly where summer went, but alas, here we are filling up with eggnog and good cheer. The gals at Sugar Bakeshop would like to wish everybody a VERY Happy Holiday season. We were able to grow and develop so much during 2009, that 2010 is set to be a very exciting, and full year for us. We couldn't be more ready.

As this year winds down, Sugar Bakeshop will follow suit for a couple of weeks. Please don't miss us too much. We will think of you often, and look forward to the moment when we will all be together again eating Lizzy's famous french macaroons and drinking hot chocolate.

In the meantime, here is the wrap up of our holiday schedule:

December 13-December 21, 2009: Place your orders! We are still accepting orders for your company Christmas parties and family wingdings. Sweet Action Ice Cream is also offering our Holiday Pies and Pints for the 2nd time this year. So indulge! But please hurry, our schedule is filling up, and while I would prefer to turn not a single soul away, I can only fill my kitchen with so many little worker elves before there are too many cooks in the kitchen!

December 22-January 5, 2009: CLOSED.

Remember what I said? Don't be sad. We will be back before you know it! This year has been a wild one, thanks to you. But it is now time for us gals to take a little break, hug the family and friends that we haven't seen for quite some time, and maybe even sleep in a day or two.

We truly, truly hope that you may all wrap up 2009 with lots of love and happiness. We can't wait to share with you what 2010 will be bringing Sugar Bakeshop. Happy Holidays!

Why thank you, Denver

What a pleasant surprise to find out that our very own Sugar Bakeshop has been nominated by an anonymous fan (thank you, whoever you are!) as one of the best bakeries in Denver! We are absolutely tickled pink about it! The Denver A list is a great resource for some of the best restaurants, bars, and shops in the city. So, here's how it works.
You log on to here:
VOTE FOR SUGAR BAKESHOP!
And find our little section. Give us your vote, and we promise to keep making the best sweets in town. And if you are REALLY feeling generous, then add a review! Just like the one that is already there:

HOOOOOOOLY MOOOOOLY these cupcakes and bars rock. I found them at the cherry creek farmers market and I keep coming back to try new things. These girls can bake and I want to marry them. I hope they open a shop soon."

Thanks Captain Astounding, you don't sound so bad yourself!

And thank you Denver! We feel honored...

And one more thing...

We could absolutely not resist for one single second the amazingness (yeah, I just made that word up) of these two little cupcakes. They came wandering up to our stand with chins and hands dripping with fresh cherry juice. ..the epitome of summer, I think.

These are the images that make us love what we do. We set up at the farmers market every summer because of the amazing produce, products, and people that are found here weekly. Like those cherry pie bars from last week? You can thank Colin at The Fruit Stand. Remember our remarkably Austrian neighbor Herbert, aka provider of the Best Bavarian sausages ever? Yeah, he keeps our markets full or spirit and amazing sausage variety.

Cherry Creek Farmers Market is a great place to stroll through, buy a few (or a few dozen-we're ready for you) goodies from us gals at Sugar Bakeshop, and take advantage of the bounty that Colorado farms offer this time of year. Life gets busy and weekends get filled, but don't forget to let yourself really enjoy our beautiful Colorado summers, just like these sticky cherry spirits above.

Whoaaa NELLIE!

That is one HUUUUGE Whoopie!

*A special Happy Birthday to our all time favorite, pink box folding, cupcake restocking, whoopie pie eating Danish friend :). You are looking mighty fine, Tom. Must be from all of those whoopie pies, right?

P.S. Tom's got nothing on you Bonnie, honest ;)

Tweeting and Blogging and Baking and Frosting

Did you know that in between our early morning wake up calls, baking dozens upon dozens up dozens of goodies, selling said goodies at 3 different markets around town, AND filling orders throughout the week that we STILL have time to tweet, or, make that twitter?!

Yeah, I know, we are signing autographs for anybody interested. We can also juggle, tell jokes, and sing like nobody's business (Actually it really SHOULDN'T be anybody's business-we aren't that good). Come to think of it, I don't know if any of my jokes are worth telling, and Lizzy hasn't juggled in YEARS. So the only thing that we can GUARANTEE is that we spend our lives baking with love, and THAT is why it is worth knowing what we are up to at all times of the day.

But the whole point of this little blog is to let you know, that the best way to find out where we are and what we are serving up during the week is by following our little twits, or make that tweets (?) throughout the week. So go ahead, and follow our crazy, sugar-driven lives...we would love to have you join us!

Wanna Split?

These girls showed up to the Cherry Creek Farmer's Market ready to split a Cherry Blossom Cupcake!  I mean, really who can resist a cherry almond cupcake topped with a light vanilla bean frosting?  It's simple, sweet, and perfect, just like our menu solicits...and just like these girls can testify by their ear-to-ear smile!

See you at the market!

Whooopieeee!!!

Well little Sugar Bakeshop has gotten a little shout out in the June issue of 5280! Thanks to Sam at Sweet Action, our little whoopie pies (or whoopity pies, as our Austrian farmers market neighbor, Herbert likes to call them) are a bit more famous! We always thought that they were cute and delicious, but what do you expect from the proud bakers?

Thanks Sweet Action! Now come get your whoopie pies!!

Parties, and weddings, and babies, oh my!

Yikes! Sugar Bakeshop is a'buzzin this week! So much so, that we are no longer accepting orders from Thursday, June 4th- Monday, June 8th. That means, if you have already placed your order for the weekend-then you are in, and we will see you with pink boxes in hand! If not, we hate to deprive you of our little cakes and desserts, but we just can't squeeze another thing in!
We hope that you continue to think of us for your upcoming events. Now that summer is here, don't forget about Sugar Bakeshop for your picnic pies and celebration cakes. As always, Cherry Creek Farmers market is the best way to see us in person, but feel free to give a call or email if you ever need a thing (except this coming weekend, of course!).
Thanks for all of your support!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

It's May, and you know what that means?

Farmers Market Season has arrived!!!

We made it! We officially survived for 6 months without the farmers market! While we certainly stayed busy...we've missed our Saturday morning customers. Now we can get back to our normal schedules of eating tons of fresh prouduce while smelling farm fresh flowers, and cramming Sugar Bakeshop sweets into our sun-tanned faces. (just like our weekly customer, Ethan)

You know what else this means? Sugar Bakeshop is officially 1 year old! It seems like just yesterday that all of us gals were scurrying around anxiously awaiting our first day of business. Our first sale was a proud moment, and each and every one since then continues to mean just as much. This little business has grown and blossomed into quite a fun venture, one that this proud owner could not be more pleased about. So for anybody reading this that has indulged in a Sugar Bakeshop sweet, I just want to say, thanks. Thanks for believing in us and helping us to grow this little dream.

And you know what else? As much as we love these sweets, we don't really want to eat all of the Sugar Bakeshop birthday cupcakes. So mention this blog this weekend at the Cherry Creek Farmers Market, and get one free cupcake of your choice!

We are SO excited to be back and can't wait to see you at the farmers market on Saturday mornings. If you have never been, then please come by and say hi-we are the girls (and occasionally1 boy-thanks for all of your hard work, Matt!) that maintain a pretty steady sugar/caffeine high during the day. Something needs to help us survive those 5 AM wake up calls!

Can't wait for another great year!

When: Saturday Mornings (May-October)
Where: Cherry Creek (Bed, Bath, and Beyond Parking Lot-corner of University and 1st Avenue)

Happy EARTH Day!

Happy day, Earth! Sugar Bakeshop just wanted to send out a little reminder to all of our customers and fans that today is a very special day to remember. This little planet works hard to keep us all happy and comfortable, so in return, we should do our part too.

From the get go, Sugar Bakeshop has tried to be as eco-friendly as possible. From our eggs to our milk to our recyclable boxes and environmentally safe marketing materials we try to always make an effort to leave a little less of a footprint. Sometimes it's tough, but its all in the effort...a few good karma points never hurt anybody anyways.

So in celebration, here are some ideas for how to wish our Earth a big Happy Day:
1. Hug a tree
2. Plant a tree
3. Feed some birds with a homemade pinecone bird feeder that you learned to make in preschool
4. Ride your bike
5. Take the bus
6. Try out those reusable bags that you always seem to forget when you go to the store
7. Recycle something!
8. Go for a walk and pick up a few pieces of trash from those no good litterbugs
9. Forget the chemical fertilizers for your lawn and go organic on that grass!
10. Go take a big breath of fresh air, and feel that sun shine down on you.
We really do live in a pretty place. Let's keep it that way for each other.

Love,
Sugar Bakeshop

Saawweeeeetttt Action!

We get to meet awesome people all the time through this bakery business. A couple of months ago, I was approached by a pair of ice cream geniuses to come up with some baked goods for their sweet, hip shop. First of all, what an honor. Secondly, want to just trade your ice cream for my cookies for life??

Sugar Bakeshop is thrilled to be a part of the wildly popular Sweet Action Ice Cream. Not only are owners Sam and Chia creative and inspiring, but they have turned their biz into a very local, environmentally conscious place. The shop is wind-powered, their milk comes from Diamond D Dairy in Longmont, CO, and their funky flavors are spiced up by The Savory Spice shop (one of my favorite places in Denver!). They took a slew of our delicious, yet traditional goods and combined them with fresh flavors to create some totally new and modern ice cream sandwiches. It's not just chocolate and vanilla anymore!

Swing on by and get the best of both worlds...a little SB goodness and some new, hip, delicious ice cream sammiches (or just some of their AMAZING ice cream by the quart). They even have baklava (this little greek girl could ask for nothing more...).
Thanks Sweet Action Ice Cream-Sugar Bakeshop couldn't ask for cooler people to partner up with!

We love you.

Well, like it or not the holiday of love is upon us. It's February already. Without wondering what happened to January (or all of 2008!) we are moving right along and gearing up for the biggest sweets holiday of the year!

Have you thought about who you are going to shower with some love this year? Here's some options: a lover, a parent, a child, a grandparent, your favorite auntie/uncle, your bus driver, the person who gives you your morning coffee, yourself (you deserve it.), the person that you share an akward silence with EVERY morning in the elevator, your dog, your best friend (who could very well be your dog), or me. I wear size 8 shoe and enjoy gift cards and chocolate caramel cupcakes very much. Thank you in advance.

Whoever you have chosen to give a little something special to, we hope that you keep Sugar Bakeshop in mind. Did you know that we ALWAYS have pink boxes that just happen to be the color of Love?! Not to mention 3 special Valentines Day cakes:

1. Chocolate Stout Cupcake topped with chocolate ganache
This little cake is a DEFINITE hit with the beer drinkers in your group. A VERY dark chocolate cake with a healthy dunk into our homemade chocolate ganache. Topped with a lovely red heart for the big Vday.

2. Bleeding Heart Cupcake.
Plain Jane cupcake on the outside, Plain Jane in LOVE on the inside. A vanilla cake with a bright red center and vanilla buttercream on top! Topped with some happy red and pink sprinkles.

3. Red Velvet.
There's no way that we could leave one of our best-sellers out of the Valentines Day lineup. This bright red cake is moist, a little chocolaty, and topped with the best cream cheese frosting around.

There's a lot to look at on our menu. So take your time and pick out a good lineup for your Valentine's Day treats. And in the name of this little holiday we have decided to list some things that we love:

1. Puppies
2. Sunny Denver days
3. Good dinners with good friends
4. Walking in crunchy snow
5. Nutella and Peanut Butter sandwiches
6. Peeling an orange in one peel
7. this kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI1i-VfEc0E
8. And you.

What do you love??

Happy Valentines Day!
